Newgrange Falconry
a kate west recommendation
One of the most ancient sports has to be falconry. From the age of the Samurai and Medieval times to present day royalty, people have flown falcons and hawks as part of an elite partnership with nature.

Hi Brian,
We (Mid Louth Camera Club) spent a few hours with Newgrange Falconry in January 2010. There where a lot more birds on display than we expected and we where in awe of their beauty and grace. We spent almost 4 hours photographing these beautiful animals in flight and perched and Brian was extremely accommodating to our needs whilst always being aware of the birds safety and wellbeing. We all agreed that it was probably the best club outing we have ever had, not just because of the photographic results but also because of the knowledge we gained about this ancient sport. The dedication and effort that Brian puts into this is admirable and we where all in admiration of his commitment to these birds. All in all it was a day that none of us will forget and I for one would love to do it again...!
Thanks so much

Barbara and Brian,
Thank you so much. We had a great time. It was one of the most memorable
parts of our trip.
Has your Lanner Falcon performed a stoop since our trip?
We have some photos and a couple of OK video clips that we thought you might
be interested in. Is there an address I can send them to?
Thanks again.

Hi Brian,
We had an amazing day out with Newgrange Falconry. It was truly a unique
experience. The birds were magnificent. I never thought that that you could
get so close to them. Plus they provided a romantic picnic with sparkling
wine and delicious lunch. And we learned much about the local history of the
Boyne Valley and of course, all the stories and background about the sport
and the birds themselves - .
Thanks again for the great day out.

We had an amazing experience with the Newgrange Falconry birds of prey. It was much more than we were expecting. Having a hands on experience with the birds was incredible. We learned so much about the birds by physically holding them and watching them fly and hunt. The fact that you get to work with the birds in small groups makes it that bit more intimate and special. We gained so much knowledge about the birds from Brian, who was so easy to talk to and he was also eager to answer any questions we had about the birds. All in all, an absolutely fantastic day out; a must for anyone with an interest in wildlife and birds. I'm already planning my return visit, but next time I'll bring my wellies!!!

Thanks again for the experience and I'll see you soon!

For me and I guess a lot of people, it’s great when an chance to photograph something “out of my ordinary” comes along and that is what happened last Saturday. |
